an early autumn loot shoot

It’s been a long time since I posted a loot shoot, but this has been a lovely lazy weekend, when I could escape alone to a country antique fair and then to fair-in-a-field, and I was happy to bring home a little loot.

chateau condé sur iton, normandy

The antique fair was held in a whimsical chateau with towers and moats and hunting lodges.   All slightly chaotic, as many dogs as vendors, if not more, so luckily I hadn’t brought Gibson or Ghetto along for the ride.

The pieces that caught my fancy this week were a couple of soup tureens in very pretty designs.  I am particularly fond of the pink one, with its bird and flowers.

details blue tureen and plates

I spotted the blue tureen at the fair early this morning, the one in the field ( and for those of you with good memories that would be the same field where I lost my keys earlier this year).  I love its oval shape, echoed in the oval serving dish and two oval side servers.  All very elegant.

detail copper saucpans

There seemed to be a lot of copper this morning, and after picking up many pieces, I chose this saucepan and three lids.  Not in good enough condition to be used for cooking, but just wonderful for hanging on a kitchen wall and giving an immediate French country touch.

antique fair in chateau

The fair at the chateau was held inside and out, with vendors hanging their wares from the sides of 18th century fireplaces … whatever ….  the mere fact of being able to wander around the chateau as we bought, seemed to add some extra fun, especially when it meant finding some huge linen sheets like these – love them!

I was also very happy this morning to find a big ironstone oval dish that is perfect for flowers, although I am not sure it was made with flowers in mind.      I immediately picked a few hydrangeas and zinnias to see how well it worked.

autumn flowers

Voila!   A little snippet from my weekend, all of the above will be appearing shortly in my brocante store, so let me know if there is anything of interest.
